Google Forms is a versatile tool that allows you to create surveys, quizzes, and forms for various purposes. Once you've shared your form and started collecting responses, there may come a time when you need to delete some of these responses for various reasons. Whether it's an accidental submission, a test entry, or you're looking to clear the data for a new project, deleting responses in Google Forms is straightforward.
In this blog post, we'll guide you through the process of deleting responses in Google Forms.
Deleting Individual Responses
- Open Google Forms: Visit Google Forms and sign in if you're not already logged in. Open the form containing the responses you wish to delete.
- Navigate to Responses Tab: At the top of the form, you'll see various tabs like "Questions," "Responses," etc. Click on the "Responses" tab.
- View Individual Responses: Below the summary graphs and individual question analytics, you'll see a button that says "Individual." Click on that.
- Browse Responses: You can now browse through individual responses. Navigate to the response you want to delete.
- Delete the Response: Once you've located the response, you'll see a trash can icon in the upper-right corner of the individual response box. Clicking this icon will delete the response.
- Confirm Deletion: A prompt will appear asking you to confirm the deletion. Click "Yes" to proceed.
Deleting All Responses
If you want to delete all responses:
- Open the Form and Navigate to Responses: Follow steps 1 and 2 from the previous section to navigate to the "Responses" tab of the form.
- More Options: In the "Responses" tab, look for the three vertical dots (More Options) typically located near the top-right corner.
- Delete All Responses: In the dropdown menu, select "Delete all responses."
- Confirm Deletion: You'll be prompted to confirm if you want to delete all responses. Click "Yes" to proceed.
Note: Deleting responses is irreversible, so make sure you want to permanently remove the data before doing so. If you want to keep a copy of the responses, you can first download them as a CSV file from the same "More Options" menu.
Deleting Responses from Google Sheets
If you've linked your Google Form to a Google Sheet:
- Open the Linked Sheet: Open the Google Sheet where your responses are being collected.
- Locate the Response: Navigate to the row that corresponds to the response you wish to delete.
- Delete the Row: Right-click on the row number and select "Delete row."
Note: Deleting the response from Google Sheets will not remove the response from Google Forms. You'll have to delete it from both places if you want it completely removed.
Conclusion
Whether it's a single response or all of them, deleting responses from Google Forms is a straightforward process. Just remember that this action is irreversible, so make sure you've backed up any necessary data before proceeding. Happy form creating!
